Warning after cycle theft spate

Cyclists are being warned to keep their bikes secure following a spate of thefts in North Cumbria.

Between April and July there were more than 150 reports of pedal cycles stolen in the area, with a total value of about £79,000.

A police spokesmen said mountain bikes were particularly at risk, with thieves removing them from garden sheds and garages as well as from the street.

People are advised to keep their bikes locked up when not in use.

Anyone who is offered what they suspect to be a stolen cycle is also asked to contact police.
