Twenty injured in bus collision

Ambulance crews said most of the casualties were 'walking wounded'

Twenty people have been injured in a crash involving a bus and a car on the A66 in Cumbria.

Three people are thought to have been seriously injured while the others were described as "walking wounded".

The casualties were taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary and Penrith Hospital on Saturday morning.

Emergency services have been working to clear the scene of the crash, near Temple Sowerby, Penrith, and the A66 has now re-opened in both directions.

The incident happened at 0820 BST and involved a single-decker bus and a car.

One of the seriously wounded victims was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The major route, which connects north east and north-west England, was closed until about 1445 BST.

Cumbria Police said traffic congestion in the area was expected to clear by Saturday evening.
