Opening for £3m cultural centre

The Wave Centre
The Wave Centre's name is derived from its shape

A £3m visitor attraction has officially opened in a Cumbria town.

The Wave Centre, in Maryport, is a community and cultural facility, which will be used for a wide range of activities and exhibitions.

It includes a 230-seat cinema, concert hall, conference centre, cafe and tourist information centre.

There is also an education suite featuring an interactive heritage exhibition based on the story of Maryport and its links with the sea.

A Made in Cumbria shop sells local produce.

The centre's name comes from its shape, and the town's association with the sea.
