Venue wanted for 'green' upgrade

A search has begun to find a building in the Lake District's Keswick area to undergo a environmental upgrade.

The Bassenthwaite Reflections Project needs a school or community venue to house a wood-burning heating system.

Project Officer Amanda Hancock said the chosen building would also house an exhibition about the history and heritage of wood-burning as a fuel.

It is hoped the project will encourage visitors to consider green-friendly, alternative heating systems.

Ms Hancock, of the Environment Agency, said: "I think this will be a really exciting, eye-opening and economic project for people to be involved in.

"I'm sure there must be a suitable venue out there close to Keswick.

"The aim is to encourage people to consider alternative, suitable forms of heating.

"By demonstrating this new system, using low grade wood, it's hoped to show that the project not only helps save money, but will help improve the environment too."
