Three family members die in crash

A mother and her daughter were among the victims of a road crash which claimed four lives in Cumbria.

Agnes Graham, 52, and her daughter Kathryn, 22, were in a Ford Fiesta which burst into flames following a three-car collision on Saturday.

Mrs Graham's sister, Mary Kennedy, also died in the crash, while a 21-year-old female cousin of Kathryn Graham is in a critical condition in hospital.

The fourth victim was named as Andrew Pattison, 23, from Whitehaven.

He was driving a Vauxhall Astra which was involved in the accident on the A595 at Moota, near Cockermouth, in the Lake District.

Two men in a Chrysler Neon suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Police said two of the cars were travelling north on the road while the third was heading south.

The Fiesta left the road and was one of two cars which caught fire.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Officers urgently want to talk to a man who stopped at the scene and gave a brief witness statement before continuing with his journey."

The injured 21-year-old woman is being treated at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary.
