Road collapse repairs on schedule
Workmen inspect collapse
Repair work started when high tides passed
Work to repair a 40ft (12m) long section of coast road which collapsed during storms in Cumbria is on track to be completed by the Easter weekend.

The B5300 between Allonby and Silloth was undermined when high tides breached the sea wall on Sunday - creating a 10ft (3m) deep hole.

Council workmen, who have already filled in two thirds of the hole, are aiming resurface the road next week.

Local businesses have remained open throughout the road closure.

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: "Highways staff are working throughout the weekend and aim to be getting the road open during next week so things are back to normal for the Easter bank holiday weekend."

The council estimates that 750 tonnes of rock and concrete will be needed to fill the hole before the road surface can be re-laid.
