Workmen survey 40ft road collapse
Workmen inspect collapse
Repair work will start when high tides have passed
Workmen have begun inspecting a 40ft (12m) long section of coast road which collapsed during storms in Cumbria.

The B5300 between Allonby and Silloth was undermined when high tides breached the sea wall on Sunday.

It caused a 10ft (3m) deep hole in the section of road, blocking the route at Dubmill Point.

A Cumbria County Council spokesman said the substantial repair work would only start when high tides had passed later on Wednesday.

He said: "We will be fixing it in the next four weeks, but we won't be able to start until the last of the high tides has passed.

"It happens periodically because the road there is so close to the sea."
