Power restored to storm hit areas
Power has been restored to hundreds of homes in Cumbria left without electricity when winds gusting up to 60mph (96km/h) knocked out cables.

Up to 600 homes, mainly in the north of the county, were cut off when the storms hit on Wednesday morning.

A United Utilities spokeswoman said engineers worked throughout the day to repair cables damaged by felled trees.

The firm is hoping to return power to 66 homes still left without electricity sometime before midnight.
