M6 improvement work on schedule
The 175m extension of the M6 in Cumbria is on target to be finished later this year.

When complete, the improvements from Carlisle to Guards Mill will mean that motorists will be able to drive from England to Scotland by motorway.

A new bridge across the river Esk for southbound traffic has also been completed and will open in March.

The Highways Agency said the new Mossband Viaduct over the West Coast Mainline was also near completion.
