Wordsworth book bought by trust
William Wordsworth
The Wordsworth Trust aims to bring together the poet's works
A copy of a poetry book hailed as one of the most important in English history has been bought for £42,000 by the Wordsworth Trust in Cumbria.

The second edition of Lyrical Ballads published in 1800, contains the famous Strange Fits Of Passion Have I Known.

The work by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge has gone on display at the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere.

It is one of seven in the world that contain corrected pages, including 15 lines of text omitted in the original.

In the rush to print the book, the poem Michael had 15 lines missing.

A small number of books were reprinted to correct the error, including the one on show in Grasmere.

There are also other changes to the text at the request of Wordsworth.

The copy acquired by the trust belonged to a school friend of Wordsworth.

David Wilson, from the Wordsworth Trust, said: "The significance of this book is beyond measure.

"This is one of our most important purchases in recent years."
