Town clampdown on youth drinking
Police have begun a two-week blitz on underage drinking in a West Cumbrian town.

Officers in Whitehaven are using "headcams" to gather evidence and "dip kits" to test containers which they suspect may contain alcohol.

Operation Kensington will target disorder hotspots in an effort to reduce anti-social behaviour.

Police will also visit off-licences and encourage them to adopt a policy of selling alcohol to over-21s only.

A Cumbria force spokesman said: "Whitehaven, like any other town or city in the country, suffers from the effects of youths under the influence of alcohol who often become involved in anti-social behaviour.

"Underage drinking will not be tolerated and this operation will be a driving force to tackle the problem.

"We will work closely with the licensing industry and raise awareness amongst parents and other members of the community."
