Marmalade celebrated at festival

The festival features marmalades from across the world
The world's most expensive jar of marmalade will feature at a celebration of the famous preserve in Cumbria.

The county's Marmalade Festival, which is in its third year, includes a 17th Century book tracing the history of preparations and recipes.

Paddington Bear's 50th birthday will also be celebrated at this year's event, at the Dalemain Estate.

Marmalade sandwiches were a favourite of the much-loved children's character, created by Michael Bond.

The festival was conceived after a drop in the number of households buying marmalade.

It features cookery demonstrations and competitions featuring home-made preserves from across the world.

The world's most expensive pot of marmalade, worth £5,000, will be on display. It is made from vintage champagne, 60-year-old malt whisky and gold leaf.

Other local food will also be showcased at the festival, which runs from Thursday until Sunday.
