Driver killed as car leaves road
A man has died after the car he was driving left a country road in Cumbria and crashed into a tree.

The 41-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after the incident on the A595 near Askam-in-Furness on Monday.

Cumbria Police said efforts by the emergency services to resuscitate the man, who lived locally, failed.

Officers appealed for any witnesses who may have seen the black Ford Focus before it crashed.

Police closed the road for four hours as they dealt with the incident.
