Car plunges onto railway tracks
Train services in Cumbria were disrupted when a car plunged down an embankment and onto rail tracks.

The Rover, driven by a 40-year-old woman from Cockermouth, left Barras Lane in Dalston and came to rest on the Carlisle to Barrow line.

Trains using the route were immediately stopped after a member of the public alerted the emergency services.

The car was winched to safety and the driver treated for shock after the incident on Friday afternoon.

Cumbria Police said it was fortunate that no trains were on the track at the time.
