Rail worker rebailed over crash
Train crash at Grayrigg
The arrested man has been bailed for a further five months
A rail worker arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a fatal crash has been bailed for a further five months.

One woman was killed and 89 people hurt when a Virgin train derailed at Grayrigg, Cumbria, in February. The 46-year-old worker has not been named.

The man, who was arrested three months ago, answered his bail in Preston on Wednesday and was bailed again until 26 March, British Transport Police said.

Network Rail have blamed faulty points for the Virgin train derailment.

Margaret Masson, 84, from Glasgow died when the London to Glasgow Pendolino train crashed.

A report by Network Rail released last month found systematic failures in track patrolling and management.

Accepted responsibility

It identified a list of deficiencies in inspection and maintenance.

It also revealed that a visual inspection of the points, scheduled for 18 February, was not carried out because an inspector decided "to finish early".

Network Rail said the inspector's records clearly showed that, but the inspector's supervisor then failed to pick up that the inspection had been missed.

It accepted responsibility for the crash and offered apologies to everyone affected.

Its inspectors also examined 120 further sets of points on its network, carrying out repairs to six.
