A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a mother-of-two who died of a single stab wound to the neck.

Nicola Bisset, 52, was discovered by police at her home in Rivington Park, Appleby, in Cumbria, on Saturday.

Bryan Monaghan, 54, a partially-sighted oil rig worker from Largs in Ayrshire, appeared at Penrith Magistrates' Court on Monday accused of her murder.

No plea was taken and an application for bail was refused. He was remanded to Carlisle Crown Court on 12 November.

Ms Bisset was a mother of two children, Rachael, 19, and 16-year-old John.
