Woman drowns when canoe capsizes
A 53-year-old woman canoeist has drowned in a Cumbrian river.

The accident happened on Friday afternoon when the woman was canoeing with friends in the River Eden between Lazonby and Armathwaite.

Her friends and the emergency services struggled for some time to free her and she was eventually taken to hospital where attempts to revive her failed.
