Harbour redevelopment work begins

Work is due to begin on Monday which could lead to the redevelopment of a west Cumbrian harbour.

A budget of almost £500,000 has been set aside by Allerdale Council for the renovation works on the harbour wall at Harrington, near Workington.

Redevelopment plans include the creation of a leisure marina and waterside homes similar to those already built in nearby Maryport.

Renovation works are due to last up to 16 weeks.

Private-sector partners are currently being sought for the planned redevelopments, first revealed by regeneration agency West Lakes Renaissance in October 2005.
