John Davies denies punching his sister-in-law
The brother-in-law of a bride has appeared in court accused of punching her at her own wedding reception in the Lake District.

John Davies, 42, denies assaulting Sharon Haugh, causing her actual bodily harm, at the Sharrow Bay Hotel in July.

It is alleged Davies, of King Street, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, punched his wife's sister once, which sent her sprawling to the ground.

Eden Magistrates sitting in Penrith, adjourned the case until November.

The incident is said to have taken place following a row with the bride and her mother at the event on 28 July.

Magistrates were told Mrs Haugh suffered bruising to her left eye.

Mr Davies, a haulage contractor, elected trial at crown court.
