Tributes to tree crash motorist

The family of a motorist killed in a tree collision in south Cumbria has paid tribute to the well-respected member of his community.

Nigel Woodburn, 68, from Bardsea near Ulverston, died when his car left the A5087 Coast Road near the village.

Cumbria Police have launched an investigation into the crash, which involved no other vehicles.

Mr Woodburn's wife Rita said her husband was raised in Newcastle, but "his heart was in Bardsea".

He was a passionate gardener and was greatly honoured to be elected captain of Ulverston Golf club during its centenary in 1995, she added.

His is survived by stepsons Gareth and Jonathan, and grand daughter Rebecca.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened on Saturday morning.
