Mine-collapse homes are bulldozed
Egremont mineshaft collapse
New bungalows will be built when work is complete
Nine bungalows in Cumbria made unstable after a nearby mineshaft caved in are to be demolished.

Householders had to flee their homes in Greenmoor Road, Egremont, when a former iron ore mine collapsed in June 2005, leaving a 30ft-long hole.

Home Housing, which owns the bungalows, said all residents had now been re-housed and the hole had been filled in with stone.

The demolition of the homes begins on Tuesday and will take two weeks.

The company will shortly be submitting a planning application for the development of eight semi-detached bungalows on the site and, subject to planning permission, the new homes will be completed in 2008.
