Purple house going under hammer
Rigg Beck
The house has fallen into disrepair
A landmark Lake District house may soon be demolished after it goes under the hammer at auction.

The purple-painted Rigg Beck has enjoyed a colourful past with visitors ranging from former poet laureate Ted Hughes to actor Bob Hoskins.

But the property in Newlands Valley has fallen into disrepair and there is outline planning consent to demolish the house and replace it.

It will be sold at auction on Wednesday with a guide price of £250,000.
