A teenage girl who ran away from home to meet a man she met on holiday has been found safe and well in Egypt.

Amy Robson, 17, of Burgh by Sands, near Carlisle in Cumbria disappeared on Good Friday while her parents were away.

Inquiries revealed she had taken a train to London and flown to Egypt, prompting a police search.

But on Tuesday Cumbria Police confirmed Miss Robson had been found in Egypt. It is believed she had been e-mailing the man for several months.

It is believed they met during a family holiday last summer in the resort of Hurgahada on the Red Sea.

'Very relieved'

Cumbria Police discovered the sixth-former had bought a plane ticket to Egypt online and liaised with Interpol to track her down.

A police spokesman said: "We received a call around 0300 BST this morning to say Amy had been found safe and well in Egypt.

"Her parents have been informed and I imagine they're very relieved.

"As far as I'm aware she is still in Egypt and we will give further details later today."

Under UK law, officers cannot force the teenager to return to Britain.
