Elderly couple die in car crash
A car crash on the A66 in Cumbria has claimed the lives of an elderly couple.

Driver Violet Simpson, 92, of Ilkley, West Yorkshire, died last week after their Ford Ka was in collision with a Nissan Micra on 28 June at Braithwaite.

Her husband Ernest, 91, died of his injuries in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle on Tuesday.

The driver of the Nissan Micra, a 51-year-old man from Dumfries, was treated for whiplash at Keswick Cottage Hospital and later discharged.
