Wrecking spree damages caravans
Vandals caused more than £50,000 damage by setting fire to caravans and wrecking cars in a Cumbrian town.

Fire crews were called to Hilton Park in Silloth, where they found two static caravans had been gutted by flames.

Other caravans had windows smashed and cars in nearby Esk Street and Golf Terrace were vandalised during the wrecking spree on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in a separate attack vandals caused £10,000 damage by breaking into the telephone exchange in Caldbeck.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said the attacks in the two town were not being linked.

He added: "This level of criminal activity in both towns is highly unusual and we want to catch the culprits in both cases."
