Activities to cut summer disorder
Teenagers - generic
Young people will be invited to take part in activities
Special attention is being paid to teenagers in Cumbria in a move to cut anti-social behaviour during summer.

Crime reduction partnership members will visit households in Carlisle with youngsters aged 10 to 16 and offer crime prevention advice.

The council will also provide special activities at its multi-use games areas to encourage healthy lifestyles and provide diversionary activity.

The first is taking place in Dale End Road on Saturday and Sunday.

Anti-social behaviour traditionally peaks in the area in July and August, and accounted for 67% of all crime reported from April 2004-December 2006.

Carlisle Housing Association, the city council and Cumbria Constabulary are involved in the StreetSafe initiative.

Tracy Andrew, of Carlisle Housing Association, said: "Typically, recorded levels of anti-social behaviour increase during the summer holidays.

"This can be for a number of reasons but a high level of the calls are due to rowdy behaviour from young people.

"We want to take this opportunity to highlight all the activities they can be involved in over the summer to help combat this rise."
