Search for missing river canoeist
Rescue services were alerted after a canoeist was reported missing on the River Eden in Cumbria.

Police said they received a call on Thursday afternoon from a woman who said she had seen the man in trouble near Armathwaite, south of Carlisle.

The Eden is currently extremely high and fast flowing in the wake of severe rain over the past few days.

Rescue teams were joined by an RAF helicopter to search an area from Armathwaite to Linstock.

The search was called when light was lost on Thursday.
