The family of a man killed in a motorcycle crash in Cumbria have paid tribute to his courage and generosity.

Robert Heron, 22, from Flookburgh, Grange-over-Sands, died after a collision with a car at Allithwaite on Tuesday morning.

His family said he was a self-taught mechanic with a passion for motorcycles and cars and had many friends in the town, who will sorely miss him.

An investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched.

Mr Heron, who had a sister and two brothers, moved to the Grange-over-Sands area from Essex in 2001.

His family said: "He had a tremendous store of courage which sustained him through all his adversities and a large heart which made him generous in his help and support to others of all ages.

"He touched the hearts of many in the Grange area , young and old alike and will be sorely missed by his mother, sister, two brothers and his girlfriend Amy and everyone who knew him. Rob will always be with us."

The crash happened on the B5277, which was closed for three hours following the accident.

The driver of the car involved was not seriously injured.
