Plans for 3.5m museum overhaul
Keswick Museum and Art Gallery
It is hoped Keswick Museum and Art Gallery will attract tourists
Plans to begin the next phase of a 3.5m redevelopment of a Cumbrian museum have moved a step closer.

Allerdale Borough Council has given its support to the redevelopment of Keswick Museum and Art Gallery.

It is hoped that upgrading the museum will boost tourist numbers. A detailed business plan must now be drawn up.

The full council is due to meet later this month and if the plans get full approval, the council will invest 490,000 in the project.

Cllr David Thomas, executive member with responsibility for tourism, said: "We have reached a major point in the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery's history.

"The opportunity for making it a successful and leading visitor destination lies with the enterprising and imaginative band of volunteers - the doers."
