Cat shot in face at close range
A cat is recovering after being shot in the face at close range in Cumbria, police have said.

Officers were alerted to the incident in the High Slapestone area of Stainton, near Penrith, on Monday, by the owner of the cat.

She had taken the pet, called Smudge, to see a veterinary surgeon after it returned home with injuries.

Three pellets were removed from the animal's head, including one from its eye, Cumbria Police said.
