A map of the Cumbria coastline made up of different coloured granite paving stones will be the centrepiece of a £70m regeneration of a town centre.
The art will be displayed in Workington town centre
The map will pick out Workington in plum stone, overlooked by a 4m (13ft) high granite and glass sculpture.
Seats will be carved into large stone blocks of Shap granite and placed on a clear resin base lit from below.
The display in Workington town has been commissioned by Allerdale Borough Council and Workington Regeneration.
The granite map will be constructed by Somerset-based sculptor Simon Hitchens whose work can be seen all over the country, including outside Harrods in London.
A model of the project will shortly be on public exhibition in the Work In Progress shop in St John's Arcade.
Catherine Coulthard, Arts Development Officer with Allerdale Borough Council, said: "The work is going to create a very special space that people will really enjoy using. It's a real landmark for Workington."
