A multi-million pound scheme to help transform the face of a Cumbrian town has been approved.
Workington shopping centre is also undergoing a revamp
Allerdale Borough Council has drawn up plans to channel at least £5.45m into Workington over the next 10 years.
The cash will be used to improve homes in a designated renewal area in the western part of the town.
This will play a major part in regenerating the town, together with existing schemes such as the £70m rebuild of the main shopping area.
A programme is currently being drawn up and will involve repair schemes to blocks of properties, rear lane renovations and other environmental improvements that may be necessary.
Councillor Maureen Rourke, Allerdale Borough Council executive member with responsibility for housing, said: "This is extremely good news for the residents involved and, I believe, fits in very well with the range of other regeneration activities that are going on in Workington."
