A visitor centre on the Cumbrian coast re-opens on Saturday with a number of new attractions.

The Solway Coast Discovery Centre in Silloth has a new art gallery which will show the work of local artists, and a new cafe.

And the town's tourist information centre has been moved there from its recent base in Criffel Street.

There are education packs for children and the centre hopes to attract at least 40 full day school visits a year.

The Solway Coast Exhibition, showing 10,000 years of landscape history, has also been updated.

Brian Irving, Solway Coast manager said: "This is a fantastic package of new events and interests.

"We believe this will put Silloth back into the heart of this attractive area, and above all, the centre will provide much needed information and a wealth of interesting features for all ages."
