HMS Walney is paying a five-day visit to Barrow
A Royal Navy warship, HMS Walney, is opening its doors to the public on Sunday during a five-day visit to its Cumbrian home port.

The Sandown class minesweeper was built and launched in Barrow in 1991.

The ship's company of 38 have been getting involved in the community, and played football against a police team.

Its arrival in the town on Thursday coincided with the finale of Barrow's Festival of the Sea, and it took part in celebrations to mark Trafalgar Day.

Commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Jon Beadsmoore, said: "We want to renew old friendships and start some new ones hopefully."
