A man who swam into a fast-flowing river to rescue a woman and her son is to receive a life-saving honour.
Niall McGregor, 22, was in Bitts Park, Carlisle, in May when word spread that two people were in the River Eden.
Fiona Clarke and her son Stuart, 13, had waded in after their dog became stranded in the river, but found themselves up to their necks in water.
Mr McGregor pulled all three to the bank and will receive his Royal Humane Society award in the near future.
The society described the rescue by the sports development officer from St George's Court in Stanwix as "spectacular".
