A father dived into the sea to rescue his two children, close to where a 10-year-old boy died in west Cumbria.
Coastguards and a lifeboat were called when the 12-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister got into difficulties on Thursday evening.
The pair and their parents, from Market Drayton, in Shropshire, were on holiday in the area.
There is an ongoing campaign for lifeguards at St Bees, after the death of 10-year-old Wayne Adams last summer.
Both children were taken to the West Cumberland hospital in Whitehaven, but were later released.
In August 2004, Wayne Adams died and his 11-year-old brother was injured after they became stranded near rocks in strong winds at St Bees.
The mile-long sandy beach at St Bees is situated three miles from Whitehaven and is popular with families.
