A pedestrian died after being hit by six vehicles on the M6 in Cumbria.
The victim was struck at about 2150 BST on Friday on the motorway's southbound carriageway near Killington Lake Services between Junctions 36 and 37.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said the pedestrian was first hit by a van and initial inquiries suggested a further five vehicles were involved.
Police are trying to discover the walker's identity and are appealing for anyone with information.
The spokesman said: "The first vehicle in collision with the victim was a Ford Transit van driven by a man from Glasgow and initial inquiries would tend to suggest that a further five vehicles were involved to varying degrees."
