The premises improvement work will be carried out at Carlisle, Brampton, Cleator Moor, Wigton, Millom and Milnthorpe and Barrow.

Mike Smith, from Cumbria Police, said the alterations would benefit police officers and members of the public alike.

He said: "We are going to be looking at improving the facilities that are available for members of the public calling at the police stations, these could be, for example, front desks.

"We are also looking improving the office space for officers and improving the welfare facilities to get the work environment to an acceptable level for staff working there."
