University of Warwick students create 'rescue robot'

The competition will test the robot in a simulated disaster environment

Students at the University of Warwick have created a robot which is designed to find trapped survivors in disaster zones.

The robot will be tested in a simulated disaster environment at an international competition, the RoboCup Rescue Championship in Germany.

It is intended to save lives by crawling through difficult terrain in search of people.

Engineering and computer science students designed the robot.

The team's academic project director, Professor Ken Young, said: "This project gives our students hands-on experience of solving a real world engineering problem.

"Not only will they learn practical lessons, they may also come up with their own truly innovative ideas."
