Checks after assault victim dies

Police have organised checks in an area of Warwickshire three weeks after two assaults on a man who later died.

Dean Brayson, 29, of Birmingham, fell to the ground near The Bell on Birmingham Road in the Coleshill area, after being in the pub on 7 November.

He later suffered serious head injuries after being approached by a number of men. Mr Brayson, of Smiths Wood, died in hospital on Thursday.

A murder inquiry has been started by police.

The Warwickshire force said the anniversary checks were being carried out in the hope of jogging people's memories.

Gang attack

Mr Brayson, who was with two friends in the pub, left at closing time and was involved in an altercation in the side car park with a man believed to be a passenger in a vehicle.

The man hit Mr Brayson in the face. His two friends tried to stop the assault and were both hit by the offender.

The three men walked out of Coleshill towards the Chelmsley Wood area and as they reached a lay-by near to a timber yard they were approached by a number of men who assaulted them.

Two of them sustained minor injuries, but Mr Brayson suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to Heartlands Hospital and later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
