Service for fire station at risk

Dozens of people have turned out to take part in a special religious service at a threatened fire station in Warwickshire.

Fenny Crompton is one of seven fire stations which fire and council chiefs have been proposing to shut.

The service was being held to say thanks for the firefighters and to show the strength of the community against the plans.

Fire chiefs have said the moves are needed to cope with modern demands.

They said they had to look more at diverting the service's resources towards coping with flooding and road accidents.

The other stations proposed to shut are Warwick, Studley, Brinklow, Bedworth, Bidford and Kenilworth.

The fire service is also looking at having fewer retained firefighters.

People have until next month to comment on the plans.
