A congregation has been praised for raising money for a new £11m Sikh temple despite the recession.

The cost of building the Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh Temple) Leamington and Warwick, which will open on Sunday, has been funded entirely by the Sikh community.

General secretary Jagtar Singh Gill said building the temple on Tachbrook Park in Leamington Spa was an "amazing achievement by the whole congregation".

He said people had "pulled together" through a "very difficult recession".

About 7,000 worshippers are expected to join a procession through Leamington Spa on Sunday to mark the opening of the temple.
