City's £1bn revamp plans on show

The final designs for a £1bn regeneration of Coventry city centre have been unveiled to the public.

Los Angeles-based architects Jerde Partnership has spent a year on the blueprint after numerous visits and a public consultation.

Shopping areas will be revamped with glass-fronted skyscrapers and rooftop gardens in the biggest rebuild of the city since the post-war years.

It will be funded by a mixture of public and private money.

'Residents consulted'

The city was largely rebuilt following the damage caused by German bombing raids in 1940 but the post-war concrete architecture has been much criticised.

Announcing the redevelopment last year, Coventry City Council said it was "what people have been asking for over the past decade", and the city was finally in a position to deliver the change.

Residents and businesses have been consulted throughout the process, the council said.

The images are available via the council's website and also at Coventry Market.
