Man injured scaling spiked fence

A man who tried to scale a spiked fence suffered a "very serious penetrating wound" to his thigh, the ambulance service has said.

The man was taken to hospital after emergency services were called to allotments at the back of Rushmore Drive, Coventry, on Sunday evening.

Ambulance crews had to cross a stream and walk through bramble bushes to reach the 35-year-old victim.

The alarm was raised when a resident in a nearby house heard cries for help.

The injured man lost a "lot of blood" and was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, the ambulance service said.

A spokesman added: "We would like to pay tribute to the fire service and also the resident - both were extremely helpful to the ambulance service in gaining access and assisting the patient."
