Six-vehicle collision on motorway

A collision on the M6 motorway involving six vehicles caused tailbacks of about 5.6 miles (9km).

Three lorries, two cars and a van were involved in the accident in Warwickshire, between junctions 2 and 3 southbound, at about 0825 GMT.

One car driver had serious injuries, while a lorry driver was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.

The M6 was shut southbound between junctions 2 and 3 but reopened about 1600 GMT, the Highways Agency said.

All vehicles involved in the crash, close to the Woodway Lane bridge, were going in the same direction, police said.

Vehicles were being turned back on to the A444 and drivers in the area are being advised to find alternative routes.

The Highways Agency said the northbound carriageway was closed for the air ambulance to land, but has since reopened.
