Police investigating the murder of a man whose badly burned body was found near the M45 in Warwickshire say they have identified him.

But detectives said they would not release his name until his next of kin had been informed.

They said they were working with the Metropolitan Police on the investigation.

A post-mortem examination revealed the man, who was found on 30 December near Rugby, had substantial head injuries.

Police released an artist's impression of the man earlier this week.

They have also studied CCTV cameras from various locations and used vehicle recognition technology on vehicles using that stretch of the M45.

Bluetooth technology has also been used to send alerts to the mobile phones of people at the northbound and southbound service stations at Watford Gap on the M1.

DNA information and palm prints were sent to Interpol and officers also worked with the the national Missing Persons Bureau and other UK police forces to try to identify the man.
