Motorway closed over 'body' find

The discovery of what is suspected to be a body led to the closure of the M45 in Warwickshire, police said.

The incident near Thurlaston left the motorway closed in both directions, from the A45 to where it meets the M1 at junction 17.

Warwickshire Police said firefighters went to the scene after a fire was reported but then contacted police. Officers have appealed for information.

The stretch remained closed well into Tuesday evening.

Police have appealed for the person who reported the fire to Highways Agency workers on the M45 to come forward with more information.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police inquiries are at an early stage and officers are examining CCTV footage of the motorway and appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity on the east bound hard shoulder of the M45."

The incident happened near to where the M45 and A45 meet near Dunchurch.
