The mother of murdered Hells Angel Gerry Tobin has called his killers "the personification of evil".

Maria Hutton, 54, paid tribute to her son who was gunned down by members of a rival motorcycle gang on a motorway in Warwickshire on 12 August, 2007.

She said the 35-year-old, from Mottingham in south-east London, was loyal, honourable and caring.

Seven men, who were part of the Outlaws biker gang, are facing long jail terms for his murder.

Ms Hutton said her son's guiding principles in life were loyalty and honour and his often stated wish for Christmas, was world peace.

Alluding to her son's membership of the Hells Angel motorcycle club, she expressed disbelief at the manner of his death, at the hands of strangers from a rival motorcycle gang.

She said her son's life "was heinously taken and the reasons why are embedded in our minds and etched upon our hearts, for what, a patch of clothing".

Comparing her son to his killers at a press conference in Birmingham she said: "Polar opposites had met, Gerard Michael, Gentleman Gerry, and the personification of evil on the M40 on 12 August 2007."

Speaking of the family's loss she said: "We are absolutely heartbroken, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually in agonising suffering."

Mr Tobin's fiancee Rebecca Smith, 26, who sat by his mother's side, thanked the people who stopped for Gerry when he was shot, who she said had "tried desperately but in vain to save his life".

"I pray one day that the nightmare of what you have witnessed will no longer haunt you."

Det Supt Ken Lawrence said he was pleased with the verdicts and hoped Mr Justice Treacy, would take into account, when sentencing, the total lack of remorse shown by the defendants throughout the eight-week trial.

Six men were found guilty of murder by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court earlier. Another defendant pleaded guilty before the trial began.

All seven men are due to be sentenced on Friday.
