Bid to curb anti-social behaviour

More police will be deployed in a Warwickshire town after repeated incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour.

Drug-dog teams, an ambulance, a fire service information vehicle and a mobile police station will be based in Leamington Spa on Friday and Saturday.

Extra CCTV operators will be at work and Bedford Street will be closed.

Ch Insp Martin McNevin said it was in response to a number of serious incidents since 1 April.

'No aggression'

"We must endeavour to change the mindset of these people to help residents and visitors enjoy a pleasant town in which to live, work and have fun," he added.

"It is also important to underline to those misbehaving and committing violence, that their behaviour could impact long term on themselves."

He said the the officers expected no drinking in the streets, no drunken behaviour, sensible levels of noise, no urinating outside, no swearing, no aggression, no drug taking or fighting and no underage drinking.

Information will also be available to people about personal safety, the dangers of binge drinking and drugs.

Revellers can also use an intoximeter to find out the level of alcohol in their blood.
