Jobs go at household goods firm

About 80 jobs are to go at a household goods firm which is shutting its Coventry production base to save money.

McBride said "unprecedented" cost inflation had driven down annual profits by more than a third.

The firm, which also makes personal care items such as mouthwash and toothpaste for supermarkets, is closing its base at Herald Business Park.

It is also scaling back its Warrington base in order to move to a new site in St Helens, Merseyside.

McBride said its underlying pre-tax profits had fallen by 38% to £19.7m in the year to 30 June.

However, McBride's chief executive, Miles Roberts, added he was confident about the firm's prospects for the coming year.

"Our products deliver outstanding value and quality to consumers across Europe and have never been more relevant than in the current environment where disposable incomes are under significant pressure," he said.
